Intro

The cultural heritage resource is finite and non-renewable and the need to preserve and record archaeological remains in-situ is now recognised by both national and local government policies, as an integral part of the planning process and as a factor in determining a wide range of planning applications.

The introduction of Planning Policy Guidance Note 16 (PPG16): Archaeology and Planning in England; National Policy Guideline 5 (Scotland), Welsh Office Circular 60/96 (Wales), has resulted in any development being assessed on its archaeological potential prior to development commencing on site.

The historic built environment is also protected by both national and local government policies and any repairs and alterations of these buildings often has an impact on the archaeology present.  Aspects of development may, therefore, be related with specific advice for dealing with historic buildings being contained within government advice Planning Policy Guidence Note 15 (PPG15): Planning and the Historic Environment.

Working in both the public and private sectors Archaeology and Heritage Management Consultancy provides a wide range of advisory and contractual services including desk based archaeological assessments, field and landscape surveys, geophysical surveys, evaluations, excavations and watching briefs to commercial developers and their agents, landowners, local authorities, national heritage agencies and private individuals in dealing with archaeological and historical building constraints.
